Penpals for Handwriting Year 5: Interactive uses activities which support direct teaching of the unit focus to the whole class using an interactive whiteboard.
Each screen is divided into Penpals gym (gross and fine motor skill warm up videos) Teach (animated pattern and letter formation for perfect modelling) and Practice (sky writing and tracing patterns to help children with pencil flow)
Each year includes: Gross and fine motor skill warm up clips to get children physically prepared for writing Pattern, letter formation and joins animated for perfect modelling.You can also pause animation if required.
Kinaesthetic practice with sky writing and tracing patterns to help children with pencil flow a word bank which provides pre-selected examples of words featuring the handwriting unit focus to enable relevant practice.
Word bank words can be pulled onto the screen so children can come to the whiteboard to identify the relevant join, trace and copy it.
A gallery featuring samples of children’s mark-making and handwriting for discussion with your class. Year 5 consolidates all the work of previous stages and introduces children to a sloped style of writing.
The focus at this stage also moves to helping children develop speed and fluency in their writing.
